READ (Colossians 3:16-17)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Merry Christmas!

This is such a wonderful time of year for us to gather together to celebrate God’s presence among us and the life that we have in Christ. In the midst of this busy time of year, I know that today, I’m breathing a sigh of relief that my big Christmas responsibilities are behind me. I say this with mixed feelings, as I’m sure many of you do as well after big family events, yes lots of fun is had and our cups are (hopefully) filled, but then life returns back to normal and you may be wondering or longing for what comes next. Though the Christmas festivities may be winding down, Christmas season continues for 11 more days and Christ is still present with you and I, so how do we respond?

A great place to go from here is the words of Paul to the Colossians, “ Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.” Friends, God has come to live among us and promises not to leave us, this is great news, let’s shout, sing, dance, or speak, our praises to God who loves us so much! This Sunday we are going to do just that in worship, as we gather around to sing Christmas carols, hear God’s word, and be community together.

PRAY:

God of love and peace, thank you for sending Jesus to live among us, to teach, heal, and bring your presence into our world. Help us to find great joy in this news and to share that news with others as we gather to worship and praise you. Amen.
