Devotion for October 29, 2024
READ (Psalm 16:8, Lamentations 3:22)
Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
REFLECT
“You should be careful not to speak in absolutes. Don’t use words like always or never.” I’m not sure where or when I heard that advice, but it’s harder than you think. I used to say I would never be able to adhere to a low-carb diet…yet I did it successfully for months. I said my favorite color would always be blue…nope, it’s now purple.
Our circumstances constantly change in this world. In the moment you may say “I’ll never understand,” and a few days later something happens, and you do.
While it may be good to practice refraining from absolute statements, there is one area we can let loose and not monitor our speech. We can confidently speak in absolutes when we talk of God’s love. God will never forsake us; God will always love us. And we should never hold back when sharing this good news with everyone!
PRAY: God our Father, thank you for loving us. Help us feel free to share love with this world in absolute confidence in your grace and love. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
