Fjeldberg – Devotion for October 1, 2024

READ (Eccl 3:1-8)

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”

REFLECT

Seasons – changing times. As autumn progresses, we are aware of the cooling weather while so many other seasons also change in our lives. One of our grandsons started middle school this year. A second began high school. Another is a freshman at ISU. Changes in the season of their lives as well as their families. We recently faced the fact our old dog’s health was failing and had our veterinarian put our faithful friend calmly to rest. We mourn his passing while rejoicing the years of companionship we shared. The hummingbird feeder has been busy as the little birds stop by to tank up as they migrate south. We hope to see them again next spring. During the changing seasons of our lives, it is wise to focus on the only unchanging absolute – our living God.

PRAY:  Father as we negotiate the various seasons in our lives, empower us to remain steadfastly focused on you. Amen
