Fjeldberg – Devotion for April 29th, 2025
READ (Gen. 3:17-18)
“To Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘’You must not eat of it, ‘’ Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat of the plants of the field.’ “
REFLECT
Spring once again and the annual battle against weeds resumes. Whether in the farm field, or the house lawn, the first plants to green and grow are often weeds. God promised Adam he would have crops to eat but it would only be after much hard labor. Their disobedience had consequences we still deal with today.
The weeds in our spiritual life are sins. Fortunately for us, God has provided the effective removal mechanism of confession powered by the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Unconfessed sins grow and there is no forgiveness or peace. Confessed sins are forgiven and removed, making us righteous. We can then draw closer to God as we walk in his love.
PRAY:
Lord we rejoice for the salvation you provide through Christ. The removal of our sins in order that we may be united with you eternally. Help us to live according to your precepts; forgiving us when we fall short.
In Jesus name, Amen
