Fjeldberg – Devotion for February 20th, 2025

READ (Matthew 5:14-16)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

REFLECT

Wintertime is the darkest time of the year.  The days are short and as I’m writing this devotion the outside temperature is below zero.  I think we all crave warmth and light at this time of year.

How about in our lives?  Is there a person you know who makes the room seem brighter and happier just by their presence?  In this Bible passage Jesus gives us directions that we are light for the world.  He tells us to let our light shine so that others may see God at work in the world and glorify God.

How can we be the light of the world?  Look for ways to make someone’s day a little brighter.  Give a compliment, say hello, wish the grocery clerk a nice afternoon.  Thank someone who’s doing volunteer work at church or in the community.  Because when we all join togetherour light is bright.  And we can glorify God in heaven.

PRAY:

Good and gracious God, help your children to be beacons of your light, and to share that light with the world.  Help us to offer this as a sacrifice in obedience to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen
