BIBLE TEXT Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)

REFLECT These uplifting words are the very last ones from the last chapter of the Book of Matthew. They were spoken by Jesus to the eleven disciples on a mountain in Galilee, after he had commissioned them to take his teachings to all, “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. The disciples had a difficult and potentially dangerous task ahead of them, and they may have wondered if their efforts would be successful. How wonderful those words of assurance must have sounded to them. We now know how effective they were in spreading the teachings of Jesus, which reach around the world. We need to remember that Jesus is with us also, throughout each day, and that we too can achieve the difficult tasks set before us with his help.

PRAY

Dear God, we thank you for the gift of Jesus, his teachings, and his example. Help us to live our lives with the assurance that we are not alone. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
