Fjeldberg – Devotion for July 23, 2024

READ (Acts 20:35) In all this I have given you an example that by such work we must support the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, “it is more blessed to give than to receive.”

REFLECT As Paul spoke his final words of encouragement to the Ephesians, he exhorted them to help the weak and vulnerable, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus himself. We are reminded by this scripture that Jesus served, taught, and loved with generosity, compassion, and selflessness. Volumes have been written about the joy of giving. It is a known medical fact that people who give for the right reasons, no matter what the gift may be, prayers, time, talents, or resources…. large or small, are happier, healthier, and less stressed. On the flip side, giving with contempt, pity, indifference, or arrogance is not true giving. Calm and blessedness accompany giving when the intent is sincere, and the heart is filled with deep compassion, real love, and intentional self-sacrifice…. this is when we become as God intended in the light of Jesus.

PRAY: Almighty Father, Thank you for the wonderful gifts you have bestowed upon us. We are so blessed by you and your Son Jesus Christ. Guide us to be steadfast and unselfish givers. Amen
